How to Overclock Your CPU for Improved PC Performance

If you are a recent owner of a multi-core CPU and are looking to squeeze as much life out of your processor as possible, then you've come to the right article. In this article I will briefly explain to you how to overclock your systems processor for maximum performance - all without having to purchase new hardware.

If you overclock the processor of your system, you'll notice immediate benefits to the overall performance of your system while running programs, games and other general operational tasks. However, of the many advantages listed, the main reason why most people overclock their systems is to increase the performance of their computer games.

If you overclock your multi-core processor then you can hope to add additional frames per second to your favourite video games. The end result is a smoother and faster gaming experience. Although buying new equipment isn't a must, I'd recommend you invested in a new CPU HSF.

With a better cooling device on your CPU, you will be able to push your processor further than you would otherwise be able to do with the default cooling solution.

Whenever you overclock your system, it's important that you run benchmark programs, most benchmark programs are free to use and are excellent programs for testing various aspects of your system such as stability and overall gaming performance.

3D Mark 06 is one of several benchmark programs that you can download and use for free. 3D Mark has released a more recent one, but I recommend this version for lower end machines. 3D mark not only tests the performance of your CPU, but it also monitors your graphics cards performance as well, which is very handy as these devices play a huge role in your gaming experience and can also be upgraded.
